Entrepreneurship

So you think you want to be on an entrepreneurship journey? Or perhaps you are just curious about other people who are entprenreneurs.

Entrepreneurship is made to look glamorous and yet on the whole it is not. Most people if you were to ask them, as business owners they are likely you will be living on a very tight budget, rather than driving around in a Tesla.

As they say the road to Entrepreneurship is littered with the carcasses of the ‘hopeful’. It is a lot of hard work however it can be extremely rewarding both financially and emotionally.  However, neither of those things is guaranteed. You get to run your own business, and make your own rules as well as build something special from the ground up. But for every Silicon Valley success story there are thousands of people that will never be a true ‘entrepreneur’.

I have found that the best way is to learn from others. I have run many successful entrepreneurial businesses. And I have made plenty of mistakes. In these blog posts I share the ups and the downs. You may want to subscribe to my Monday Xpresso Newsletter so that you can get a weekly dose of motivation.

So let’s get started on your entrepreneurial journey. Be curious, and have fun – reading and learning about being an entrepreneur.

Seven things people desire at work

Seven things people desire at work

I started a business more than a decade ago based on 'giving people good-times.' Since then I have researched and read many books about happiness, well-being and what it is to be human. In essence I have been seeking the answer to the question...

Coming up this week 18 March 2013

The last few weeks have been a hive of activity - with International Women's Day events, RedBalloon developments and speaking engagements. In the last few weeks I have attended many great events: I spoke for AICD NSW and attended the Heads Over Heels event on the same...

Where I do my best work – Anywhere

Where I do my best work – Anywhere

The only thing that is constant in my life is being on the move. I was asked by LinkedIn to share 'where and how' I work... Maybe this request was inspired by Marissa Mayers demand for the Yahoo employees to stop telecommuting and come to the office. [I think she may...

It all started in kindergarten

It all started in kindergarten

One of RedBalloon’s business values is 'a sense of humour and fun'. I am blessed to come to bound out of bed every day looking forward to my day at work. It strikes me that the basic tenets of encouraging fun and productivity in the workplace, I learnt between the...

At the heart of Invention

At the heart of Invention

This week I am in San Fransisco and there is much to do and many people to meet. Many of tech companies are headquartered here - it is like coming to the heart of technology innovation. All of these businesses are busy inventing the 'next big thing' - whilst trying to...
