THIS COLLECTION IS ALL ABOUT

LESSON

Life Lessons are hard learned Here is a selection of some of mine

Life is full of Lessons; just some are more expensive than others.

As an entrepreneur, business owner and parent I seem to go from one life lesson to another. Every day life lessons present themselves. And some are really very powerful and I’d love others to learn from them.

Part of the business journey is about who you are as a person. I also consider that my ‘whole self’ comes to work. For me, I need to make sure that my whole life is connected.

I thought it was important to include many posts about these life lessons. As an entrepreneur, business owner, or a corporate leader you will have many competing priorities. In these pages you may well find some answers. Perhaps how I did it, or what I have learned from others will give you inspiration.

Have fun and explore these many posts. You may want to have a pen and paper by your side to jot down the life lessons that inspire you. You will definitely want to subscribe to my Monday Motivator Newsletter so that you can get a weekly dose of motivation.

The state of Small Business – It’s a team game

The state of Small Business – It’s a team game

Small businesses are essential to economies around the globe; we the little guys - serve our local communities, we too can serve the world because we can access customers anywhere. I find myself in a fortunate position almost as a spokesperson on behalf of small...

Gender gap fast forward 80 years

Gender gap fast forward 80 years

I was recently challenged by a finding from the 2014 Global Gender Gap Report: it will take until 2095 – or 80 more years – to achieve gender parity in the workplace. 80 more years until the world’s available talent is fully optimised. We wouldn’t wait 80 years to...

My Work Life When I Was 22

My Work Life When I Was 22

I often have a good giggle with audiences when I’m presenting, about what it was like working "last century." The funny thing is that in just a decade, many of the practices seem completely archaic. How did we cope? We had telephones that you would dial, and then wait...

RedBalloon turns ‘Blu’ for a day

RedBalloon turns ‘Blu’ for a day

Here is an international success story... which is humbling - and has left all RedBallooners quite 'Blu'. I post this here to answer a question I had today in my session at EY. What does WorldBlu or a democratic business look like? Way back in 2001 when RedBalloon was...

How much do you owe your mother?

How much do you owe your mother?

I’m very open about the fact that I’m a woman of many labels – entrepreneur, speaker, director, author, blogger and innovator – but to my children, I am simply mum. And of all the roles I’ve ever had, being a mother is the most challenging and yet the most rewarding....

To dream the ‘impossible’ dream….*

To dream the ‘impossible’ dream….*

A BHAG (Big Hairy Audacious Goal) is a dream – but not an impossible dream. In fact by definition it is possible – but not probable. Do you have a personal BHAG? I wonder how many people simply give up their dreams because they tell them selves that they are too ‘old’...

When the big fear gets in your way: failure.

When the big fear gets in your way: failure.

A blank white screen has been sitting before me for a little too long, and I am questioning why it has taken me so long to write on this topic. This isn't because I haven't made any mistakes – between you and me, I've made a lot. Given my deep commitment to positive...
