How we will make every moment count

After the ‘Oh noooo’ moment which happened on 11 March 2020 when the World Health Organisation announced, ‘the pandemic’ like most other business owners, we picked ourselves up, dusted ourselves off and have been working around the clock since.

RedBalloon worked hard with our suppliers to bring new ‘at home experiences’ to customers and we stayed in market – promoting the experience partners.

During this time, I too knew I needed to stay close to ‘consumer sentiment’ and our business clients and learn first-hand what was going on throughout our economy. As such since 1 April 2020 I have been the acting head of RedBalloon for Business.

I, together with the other leaders in our group have talked with government, tourism bodies, industry advocates and community groups as we learned how best to spend our time, energy and resources.

The team has gathered the following insight from what we have endured in the last four months.

Countless days in isolation…
Countless days without physical interaction…
Countless days at home spent reassessing and reflecting on what’s really important…

Living in midst of a pandemic has been hard and it’s been humbling.

Ironically, by keeping our social distance we seem to have gotten closer.

Our connections with our families and friends are stronger and we’ve forged new connections with neighbours, our community and even strangers.

If there is a single lesson, we can all take away from this unprecedented situation, it’s not to take who we have and what we have as individuals and as Australians, for granted.

‘Time’ is more precious, ‘home’ has a new meaning and our enduring ‘spirit’ of positivity has led us into this next phase of work.

A moment to say ‘thank you’ – for the continued conversation and curiosity from my readers. For your love of experiences and activities. For knowing that you can count on me to do all that we can to encourage business resilience and success.

For close to two decades RedBalloon has been bringing people together through shared experience. My job is to continue on that path of connecting customers (and particularly businesses) to our community of 2000 small business experience suppliers.

This entrepreneurial ride is not slowing down any time soon.

I will ‘make every moment count’.

Answering your #1 Biggest Business Challenge question tip:

Go beyond just saying "Poor Cashflow" or "Unreliable Team".

Instead, give Naomi details & specifics on how this is currently your #1 Biggest Business Challenge.

I.e. "Every month I'm struggling to pay my bills on time because there just isn't consistent cash flow coming into the business. I've tried sticking to budgets in the past & pay myself less to keep some extra funds aside for emergencies, but still every month there seems to be another financial fire to be put out. I don't know what to do about it, so I'm just grinding it out."
