TV Week Logies 2017

Last night at the Logies I watched on as Kerri-Anne Kennerley was inducted into the TV Week Logies Hall of Fame. In her address she spoke to her success at longevity in the media business, which I believe actually spans all industries. She quoted Charles Darwin who said:

It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent that survives. It is the one that is most adaptable to change.

That quote reminded me of our theme right now – rhythm. Although I believe it’s important to get into a rhythm to enhance productivity, especially for those in business, I also think that allowing flexibility into your routines is your key to thrive and survive. Adaptability is imperative in business because the one thing we do know is that nothing stays the same.

Last week

Following the Easter break I headed into RedBalloon spending the week diving deep into the business I created more than 16 years ago! I launched the company back in 2001 and it felt great to be back in the thick of it with the team at RedBallon HQ assisting with the planning process as it begins to look at FY18 and beyond.

I finished up the week in Melbourne attending the TV Week Logies with my Shark Tank colleagues. What a night! The energy and atmosphere was fantastic and it was really interesting to being able to observe the TV industry’s night of nights. Thanks to the Carla Zampatti team for my amazing cape and dress, and to Louise M shoes for completing my outfit.

Coming up

While I’m in Melbourne I’m spending Monday in at Studio 10 doing a segment with Angela Bishop as well as a bunch of business meetings. I truly believe we must make the most out of each day we’re given – it’s very easy to forget how much time we can waste simply scrolling our screens… a simple morning check in with yourself can assist! #rhythm

After ANZAC Day I’ll be back in Sydney for more meetings with RedBalloon and Redii focussing on all things business success.

I will be answering questions for our Business Owners Community on Facebook in a Facebook Live this Thursday 27 April at 5pm and speaking about rhythm! Make sure you join the community and let me know any questions you’d like answered about rhythm in your life and business – we will be continuing the discussion over on Facebook.

What I’m reading

7 amazing technologies we’ll be seeing by 2030!
How do you feel about commercially available phones that can be implanted allowing users to communicate thoughts via brain waves? What about an Artificial Intelligence Machines sitting at corporate boardroom tables by 2026?

SMB owners listen up – we are now in a ‘mobile-first’ world, and loading time seriously matters.

  • In the 90s I left my cushy job at Apple.

I’d be a squillionaire if I still had my stock options.

I don’t regret it. Here's why:

After 10 years of corporate, I wanted to ‘do my own thing’. I started with freelance marketing.

My strategy? Hard work and build strong brands.

It seemed to work - new clients came from referrals.

But after 18 months, I came to a realisation:

All my clients wanted was “more customers”, not complex branding plans.

SO I thought I’d build a brand of my own. Something to get them “more customers”. RedBalloon was born. The purpose? Give people amazing experiences.

16 years on, RB has delivered 3.8 million customers to 2000 small businesses.

Now, when I give talks, I always get the same question: “How did you build such a strong brand?” Funny how it comes full circle.

I can’t answer that with a time limit.

Though I think I found a way - an online course. “How to Build your Business Brand” - years of experience in one place (link in bio if interested). But, that’s not the point of this post.

If I stayed with Apple I’d be unbelievably wealthy.

Quitting was still the best thing I’ve ever done.

So if you want to take a leap of faith, do it.

All I ask you is this:

Trust yourself and never underestimate the power of brand.
  • #tbt the originals circa 2004 🎈 it reminds that an entrepreneurs journey is long and full of twists and turns. What a ride! @redballoonexperiences
  • I have always been rushing! I need to remind myself of this one regularity. I'm intentional, not frenetic. Choose the one thing that needs to get done to make everything easier! #inspiration
