THIS CATEGORY IS ALL ABOUT
Entrepreneurship

I have been on this entrepreneurial journey for more than twenty years.
Entrepreneurship
So you think you want to be on an entrepreneurship journey? Or perhaps you are just curious about other people who are entprenreneurs.
Entrepreneurship is made to look glamorous and yet on the whole it is not. Most people if you were to ask them, as business owners they are likely you will be living on a very tight budget, rather than driving around in a Tesla.
As they say the road to Entrepreneurship is littered with the carcasses of the ‘hopeful’. It is a lot of hard work however it can be extremely rewarding both financially and emotionally. However, neither of those things is guaranteed. You get to run your own business, and make your own rules as well as build something special from the ground up. But for every Silicon Valley success story there are thousands of people that will never be a true ‘entrepreneur’.
I have found that the best way is to learn from others. I have run many successful entrepreneurial businesses. And I have made plenty of mistakes. In these blog posts I share the ups and the downs. You may want to subscribe to my Monday Xpresso Newsletter so that you can get a weekly dose of motivation.
So let’s get started on your entrepreneurial journey. Be curious, and have fun – reading and learning about being an entrepreneur.

The opportunity of a life time – Shark Tank series 2
I sound like I am try to sell a used car... Actually I'm not trying to sell anything... if there is one thing I have learned it is people need to choose to buy - and in this case need to choose to 'play'. As I have been touring around for Small Business Victoria and...

Where do you get your wisdom?
I get mine from the local shop... It's fast and a few minutes walk from home... this is a far cry from what Nick Sherry predicted in 2011 that book stores would no longer exist in Australia by 2016. From where I sit as an author and reader, they appear to be...

What is the first step in the Entrepreneurial Journey?
I heard Megan Quinn share her entrepreneurial journey at a City of Melbourne business lunch recently (raising money for SecondBite). The audience was deeply engaged with her story and felt really comfortable to ask questions. The first question came from a woman who...

No More Excuses: How to Get More Women Presenting Keynotes
No one likes getting yelled at, but there might be a reason. What appears to be anger may in fact be frustration – on both sides. The phone rang at 2.00pm on Friday afternoon and I note that it is Matt Barrie– this is only the second time he has ever called me...

The state of Small Business – It’s a team game
Small businesses are essential to economies around the globe; we the little guys - serve our local communities, we too can serve the world because we can access customers anywhere. I find myself in a fortunate position almost as a spokesperson on behalf of small...

Gender gap fast forward 80 years
I was recently challenged by a finding from the 2014 Global Gender Gap Report: it will take until 2095 – or 80 more years – to achieve gender parity in the workplace. 80 more years until the world’s available talent is fully optimised. We wouldn’t wait 80 years to...

My Work Life When I Was 22
I often have a good giggle with audiences when I’m presenting, about what it was like working "last century." The funny thing is that in just a decade, many of the practices seem completely archaic. How did we cope? We had telephones that you would dial, and then wait...
