Keep it moving forward

As business morphs at the speed at light and technology and artificial intelligence gain complexity before our very eyes, we as business owners are being pulled in several directions. Combine that demanding pull with the very prevalent rise of being ‘present’, ‘centred’ and remaining focused and suddenly, we are in a melting pot of go, go, go versus be, be, be. It can be a confusing place to find yourself.
In line with the May theme of #BestAdvice, what I’ve found that has helped me as a business owner when I’m pulled in several different directions is to ask myself one question: what can I do right now to move the game forward? You see, everything comes down to prioritising – a concept that is absolutely essential to us business owners.

Last week

Another seven days has flown by with loads of RedBalloon and Redii planning as the end of the financial year approaches – and of course ‘Mothers Day’ was a big focus this week.

During the week I attended the Cerebral Palsy Alliance live crowdfunding event designed to transform the future of Cerebral Palsy research which is helping change lives. The three researchers ‘pitched’ their work – and in so doing, we raised more than $100k which will go directly towards the projects.

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed people can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” Margaret Mead ~ this quote has never rung so true.

I had a fantastic time speaking at the Barnardos Mother of the Year Awards. Hearing all the beautiful and inspiring stories was so touching – congratulations to the winner Carol Edmunds from Tassie!

I finished the week with a Keynote speech for Saxtons to the Australasian Society of Association Executives Conference & Exhibition, held at the International Convention Centre Sydney which is the first time that I have spoken at this new iconic venue in Sydney.

Thought for the week

you cant always be strong but you can always be brave

What I’m reading

Twelve books every entrepreneur should read – including some of my own recommendations.
“Being successful requires being proactive and not waiting for life to come to you. It means you’re on offense, not defense. You’re active, not passive” – One behaviour that separates the successful from the average.

Stop Chasing Happiness and Realize You Already Have It – “When we stop chasing the world’s definition of happiness, we begin to recognize the decision to experience happiness has been right in front of us all along.”

On the blog

As Mother’s Day has just been and gone for another year, I thought it’d be interesting to ask some fellow founders – Janice Allis (Founder of Boost Juice, Retail Zoo and fellow Shark), Carolyn Cresswell (Founder of Carman’s Finefoods) and Emma Isaacs (Founder/Global CEO of Business Chicks) – about the worst advice they ever received from their Mum!

Grow & Scale Your Business by Naomi Simson

Tell Naomi a little bit about your business by completing the questions below. (It will take less than 60 seconds)

Answering your #1 Biggest Business Challenge question tip:

Go beyond just saying "Poor Cashflow" or "Unreliable Team".

Instead, give Naomi details & specifics on how this is currently your #1 Biggest Business Challenge.

I.e. "Every month I'm struggling to pay my bills on time because there just isn't consistent cash flow coming into the business. I've tried sticking to budgets in the past & pay myself less to keep some extra funds aside for emergencies, but still every month there seems to be another financial fire to be put out. I don't know what to do about it, so I'm just grinding it out."
