NSW Opposition Leader announces ‘Economic Growth Plan’ at RedBalloon

The NSW Opposition Leader – Barry O’Farrell visited RedBalloon this morning to make an announcement on his ‘Economic Growth Plan’. They were very deliberate in chosing a fast growth business with a strong employee engagement record as a venue for the announcement. It was an interesting experience having eight or so party people and three politicians visit, however it was the 20 media people with all their equipment which took over RedBalloon. Barry chatted with the team, I got to…

Coming up this week – 7 Feb 2011.

Verne Harnish raised an interesting question this week in his Insights Newsletter… the notion that there are no such people as ‘internal customers’. This week I had such a variety of customer conversations. I am very clear that our customers are those people who spend money with us…. However I also believe that the idea of customer extends to those people that allow you to be profitable – and to that end I include my experience suppliers in my ‘customer’…

In memory of Steve Pickering

The late Steve Pickering

It was with sadness that I read this email… Hi Naomi It’s my sad, sad duty to inform you that last Thursday night Steve Pickering passed away at home following what is believed to be a heart attack. We had our Gold Coast event on Sunday event, held in Steve’s memory, and following the event we cast some flowers in to the waves to honor him. A full paddle-out in his honor is going to be held soon and at…

The launch of this Trimesters theme was last Monday morning. It is all about growth. – We will celebrate when we achieve 54 by 24 –that is every RedBallooner will celebrate with an extra day of summer holidays with 250 points to have a fabulous experience on the day. What a week of experiences this has been. Monday I watched racehorses at David Hayes stables at Flemington – work out on a treadmill. Tuesday I had breakfast with past Melbourne Cup champions, Rogan Josh and Brew in the mounting yard at Flemington and I held the 18 carrot gold Melbourne cup (with white gloves on). Later in the afternoon I met and held a bunch of reptiles, quite the experience. Wednesday I’d lost my voice – so for our…

73% say ‘I dream of being somewhere else’

This morning  participated in the ‘Dream Employers’ launch event – near the Opera House in Sydney. The comments from panelists – and the general observations from the panelists and the attendees was interesting. (much content for many blogs.) In August, InSync together with RedBalloon and Talent2 asked the public to comment on who is Australia and also New Zealand’s dream employer. There are quite a number of ‘Best Employer’ and ‘Employer of Choice’ surveys – which are voted by the…

Frustrating… 4 taxes on 4 square metres

I’ve never been one to make political comment. As a business owner and citizen – I just get on with working hard to grow a business, raise my children and contribute to the community. I was asked to participate on The Nation for Sky News on 30 April – just prior to the release of the response by the government to the Henry Review, and also this weeks budget. (see below some of my comments) I have often invited Julia…

Twist in the RedBalloon tale.

We know at RedBalloon that recruitment is very much a dating game. It is a two way street – it is just as much about potential RedBallooners getting to know us as us getting to know them. RedBalloon might have been named in the top 10 Best places to work by BRW but we know that our work place will only suit some people. We are recruiting many roles – and we publish them on the Amazing Careers page on…

The final Secret Millionaire Chapter

I was asked last night after the airing of the program – ‘Did you enjoy the experience?’ ‘Enjoy’ no, did I find it challenging, confronting, and rewarding – absolutely. I am not an actor, or in the entertainment industry. I have had little to do with television. I did the program on the premise that it was a documentary on volunteering. I did not know where I was going, who I would meet, nor how I would get on. But…
