I did not make a fool of myself on Friday at Martin Place in fact the Foxtel laps corporate team challenge was great fun. Fabulous to get everyone out and about and being fit. (UBS was the corporate winner) But I think that Vanessa, Sally and our marketing team made us ‘look’ the best. There is still time to Sponsor the RedBalloon team by sponsoring me

Getting Fit to raise money for kids.
I’m quite concerned that I will make a fool of myself in Martin Place on Friday 14th September, because I’m not as fit as I once was. RedBalloon has entered a team (as well as sponsored) the Foxtel Laps to raise money for the Murdoch Childrens Research Institute. Now there are many benefits – we get to do something as a team – The RedBallooners are wanting to raise $10,000. We get to focus on fitness. Plus we are doing…
Green Balloon Days
Sometimes it seems that the world is trying to tell you something. I finally got around to seeing the DVD An Inconvenient Truth startling and depressing. Polar bears with no where to go as the ice caps melt, cities underwater and dramatic climate changes. Even though Australia is one of only two nations who did not sign the Kyoto agreement ? we only represent 1.1% of the world’s problem according to Al Gore. The question I was left with is…
Sydney now safer because of a great experience
I have had my license for twenty five years. It does not mean that I have been driving for a quarter of a century though ? in fact I did my bit for the environment about eight years ago and sold my car. Yet earlier this year we purchased a company van for shared use. So from time to time I’d take to the road in the RedBalloon Van. Some of my team members made some not so subtle suggestions…
Always having a sense of humour
Some of the funnest meetings we have at RedBalloon are when we get to invent new experiences (then we try to find a supplier for them). I was sent this list of potential new experiences – and they made be laugh. Not sure if they will make the RedBalloon website though. Something about political correctness… Medical mis diagnosis ? give a loved one a roller coaster of emotions as they are diagnosed with a serious condition, then told that it…
Time to celebrate
I was so excited to have my books finally arrive. Well I suppose they are not really my books. They are for Dymocks, many other great book sellers and for sale and online. But ultimately they are for those who want to know ‘what I am on’. I t is very exciting to have the first five years of a fast growing business – warts and all now in print. Fantastic too that it comes at a time when RedBalloon…
When we let our personality shine.
Personality makes he world go round. We are all people and we are in the business of fun. RedBalloon is currently recruiting for many roles. This application really stood out… “Once upon a time there was a young girl devastated upon discovering the truth about Santa. To help cheer this sad little Vegemite, the girls mother invited her into the world of late night Christmas Eve gift wrapping, for those younger, still believing siblings. This special job became just as…
Blowfish experience, a lesson in customer delight.
I had heard vaguely of blowfish before coming to Tokyo. So when I was invited to do a cooking class at a blowfish restaurant I was not quite sure what to expect. A member of the Tokyo Entrepreneurs Organisation invited 32 of us to witness what others just don’t get to do ? back of stage at a blowfish restaurant. We were met by a person sized blo fish waiving excitedly at our arrival and then we were each given…
Tuna in Tokyo – a lesson on supply and demand
In addition to the many things I learned be attending the global entrepreneurs event in Tokyo. There were the unexpected things that I learned too. Leaving the hotel at 5.00am to go to the main fish markets I was amazed that at that time of the morning there were people and cars everywhere. Cherry blossoms were poking through, people in masks keeping germs to themselves and glistening trucks rushing to their destination. (In the whole time in Tokyo I never…

Imagine running a business based on fun - that's what I decided to try when I left a very serious corporate career in marketing to set up RedBalloon...

What did I do at work today…
Oh what fun we had… for 5 weeks now we (Sarah our corporate programs manager) has been dropping hints to the team about the launch that is set for Monday. Sending them text messages with invitations to a Conga line competition. Special messages on tambourines left on peoples desks early in the morning. Connect 4, Jenga and Draughts challenge competitions at lunch time… Team leaders doing the rope course to get the pre insight into the contruct of the program…
