Each Trimester we have a theme. This theme is designed to get every RedBallooner focused on delivering the critical component of the plan. But we make sure that we are fulfilling our fourth value of – a sense of humor and fun. After all it is okay to have fun in business. This years’ theme is from ‘Success to Significance’. One of the metrics we use to determine ‘Significance’ is the Google page ranking. Google will rank redballoon.com.au however it…

Experiencing the Experience of the National Telstra Business Womens Awards
I wrote this just after the event in December… while it was still fresh – but I didn’t want to publish it until the video of the event came through. Here it all is. Sitting amongst 700 glamorous people all present to celebrate the achievements of Women from around Australia at Crown in Melbourne on 9 December 2008. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Every detail was taken care of – the 34 State winners who were honored at the event…
Advertising has its place…
If you’ve heard me speak – you know I am quite open about why I believe our business continues to grow rapidly… even though advertising has not been part of the marketing mix. We just completed some brand research with Nielsen and found that there is a 32% unprompted brand recall for RedBalloon… which is pretty amazing given that when I ask audiences what advertising they have seen – very few hands go up. (My marketing manager hates me asking…
Charmed I’m sure…
I attended the Smart Company awards last week. I always find it interesting with a room full of people who know almost no one how people interact. Some people stay as hidden as possible in the back of the room, but this was a room of entrepreneurs…. and we are by nature ‘sales people’. Always selling our ideas or concepts. Earlier this week I was also asked to present to 150 people about the art of networking – now I…
RedBallooners celebrate
Each trimester (quarter with an extra month) we create a theme. Last trimester our theme was BlackDiamond. If we got the game (business result) we announced that we would take the whole team skiing. This is the RedBallooners at Thredbo. What a fantastic weekend. Such an experience, some had never seen snow before, others had been instructors in previous lives. This is one experience we will all remember.
Painting the picture
I remembered a very long time ago when I was just a new employee of Apple, the video that we looked at to inspire us for where Apple was headed. Now remember this video was made more than 20 years ago… before we had email and internet. Between Google and Apple this has pretty much been achieved. Only goes to show – that the future is the one that we imagine. I only wrote my painted picture in words…. but…
What do I get up to…
People often ask, ‘As Chief Experience Officer’ do you spend most of your time experiencing experiences? Being CEO for me is about being accountable for how people experience this business. Whether they are customers, suppliers, affiliates, associates or team members. But of course we must practice what we preach. Here are a few recent pictures of what I get up to as CEO.. One thing I learned along time ago from Ike Bain (right hand man to Dick Smith) is…
I love to paint…. with a few friends
RedBallooners’ get the creative juices flowing…one of our fabulous experiences – Team Art Go wild, have fun, everyone is an artist. The team that plays together – stays together….
Connecting with the customer.
I was sent this email by one of my team members, Arielle, she works in the front line as one of our pleasure relations consultants – on the phone and via email ensuring people have a great time. She thought I would be interested in the contrast between two different types of customer service. As Chief Experience Officer for RedBalloon I’m accountable for how people experience our web site. I did like the tale of two customer interactions. “I was…
