Great Leaders Listen Loudly

I was recently with a group of start up businesses; this small group of founders was excitedly debating the best way to promote their businesses using social media. Each was bemoaning that they were not getting much traction on their twitter and Facebook page… and one was asking me if it was ‘worthwhile’ to start a blog. Here’s the thing: Only blog, tweet and FaceBook if you have something worth saying that might be of interest and value to someone…

Eight Ingredients at the Mentoring retreat

I thought about it at great length – consulted extensively with my colleagues – then asked on this blog if there would be an interest for some of those who contact me regarding their business growth strategies – would it be a good idea to get some like minded people got together for a weekend of discussion and sharing? Now the entrepreneurs mentoring retreat is almost finalized and I’m getting very excited to have it all come together. The pre-reading…

Coming up this week 2 April 2012

Sometimes I do have to pinch myself – and say ‘wow’ because I do get to experience some absolutely amazing things. The weekend before last I was trialing ‘glamping’ on Cockatoo Island, Tuesday I got to experience the John Bowe V8 racing experience at Wakefield; in the evening I was at the Sydney Dance Theatre and met Rafael Bonachela- Creative Director and also the dancers after the performance of ‘2 One Another’ – which was an absolutely amazing expression of…

Three Productivity Tips

I was part of a panel asked to present on our top productivity tips yesterday. Often we don’t really know what we do that keeps us productive – it is innate. I thought of my own productivity such as  writing down physically the three things I must get done in a day before I go home; or is it turning off email so I can focus on producing what I want to do rather than responding to other people’s agenda. …

Coming up this week 26 March 2012

Interesting little transition last week in the life on Naomi Simson – I was asked on three separate occasions to contribute to something – because I write this blog. I found that fascinating. I was introduced on Channel Nine’s Mornings program as ‘one of Australia’s leading business bloggers’ – I was asked to be a guest tweeter for ABCs Lateline on Tuesday – and I was asked to attend the BB Retail Capital conference (of Adairs, Bras and things, Diva…

Men are ‘assertive’ – Women are ‘bossy’

I recently was forwarded an article called ‘The End of Men’ which originally appeared in July 2010 – and is clearly very well researched. It is long but interesting. (And no menfolk are still very much loved, adored and needed the dramatic title is clearly designed to get our attention). This US centric article focuses on the evolution of the role men and women are playing in industrialized societies. As I read the article I did feel uplifted – however…

Friday’s Food for Thought

The adventure of life is to learn. The purpose of life is to grow. The nature of life is to change. The challenge of life is to overcome. The essence of life is to care. The opportunity of life is to serve. … The secret of life is to dare. The spice of life is to befriend. The beauty of life is to give. The joy of life is to love. Quote from William Arthur Ward Thanks to Warren Henningsen…

How lucky we are

I was just taking a moment to reflect on how amazing my week was last week. I feel pretty lucky to be invited to Hamilton Island as a speaker. Literally a few hours from Sydney and I am on a tropical island – sipping a cocktail. I bumped into some friends whilst I was there and they mentioned that they fly to Hamilton Island every 3 weekends or so for a four day weekend. They said while it sounds ‘luxurious’…

143 years to grow a brand – 1 day to destroy

Greg Smith’s open letter of resignation from Goldman Sachs that appeared in the New York Times last week has been devastating on many levels. Only with time will the real impact be revealed, however already billions of dollars have been wiped off its stock price, with clients deserting at a fast pace. It has been a public relations fiasco. The questions I ask are: what about the colleagues and co-workers who remain at Goldman Sachs, and what of its employer brand?…

Coming up this week 19 Mar 2012

Last week I didn’t know whether I was coming or going  – I got to meet a total of 1300 people in three speaking engagements in three different regions; Hamilton Island, Sunshine Coast and Sydney. I had a full day in Sydney learning about negotiation skills – as well as writing the final chapter of the next book and the program for the mentoring weekend in April… I big thank you to my colleague Philippa, for keeping me focused on…
